Description
The Washington Clean Energy Testbeds operate three laboratories in the Bowman Building: the Scale-Up & Characterization Testbed, the Systems Integration Testbed, and our new pouch cell battery prototyping lab.
The Scale-Up & Characterization Testbed provides equipment for developing at-scale fabrication processes through ink-based, thin-film technologies and additive manufacturing. The facility offers researchers the opportunity to synthesize, fabricate, and test in a state-of-the-art production environment. Fabrication activities are supplemented with industry-leading characterization equipment. A large suite of rapid-scan materials analysis equipment affords users immediate, comprehensive feedback on formulations and fabrication processes.
The Systems Integration Testbed offers real-time simulation platforms for advanced power systems and product-in-the-loop capabilities that are critical for testing new energy devices and power electronics in model scenarios, but in a safe, lab-based environment. Our modeling capabilities are also available to techno-economic analysis and life cycle assessment of new innovations.
The Testbeds battery lab houses a world-class pilot-scale pouch cell production line. This labs enables innovators from both academia and industry to prototype batches of commercially relevant pouch cell batteries, with tools for every step from material processing to formation and testing.
Our facility also houses meeting and office space where users from academia and business work and collaborate.
