Description

Located near Eatonville on the confluence of the Nisqually and Mashel Rivers and 30 minutes Mount Rainier’s Nisqually entrance. Since 1926, Pack Forest has supported forestry and environmental science research, UW field classes, research installation and maintenance, and demonstration and outreach activities. The conference center facilities are often used for teaching UW classes, and departmental retreats. The forest includes areas ranging from 1 year-old seedlings to 500 year-old old growth forests. Pack Forest aims to serve the research needs of the UW community and recently we have engaged in: entomology, songbird, soils, forest fertilization, rhizophere diversity and impacts on tree establishment and growth, assisted migration, species trials, drought studies (including throughfall exclusion), building material trials, and human physiological response to forest bathing studies. The forest and conference center are self-sustaining budgets and seek outside collaborations with scientists in support of the mission and facilities.
