At the UW, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging are integral to research excellence. We bring a breadth of disciplines and diversity of individual experience to asking and answering research questions, in an inclusive environment that encourages innovation. We promote equity-centered research approaches that consider the people involved, research processes and research objectives together at every stage of the research process.

In the past 3 years, UW has hired more than 20 faculty members (in 16 departments) whose research addresses issues associated with race and social justice.

20 Senior Diversity Leads support programs to enhance excellence across the breadth of disciplines at UW.

UW has researchers from 30 schools and colleges, plus several major research institutes, representing more than 190 disciplines.

Spotlight on DEI research:
Center for Research and Education on Accessible Technology and Experiences (CREATE)

CREATE has been awarded $4.6M for research on the risks recent developments in AI pose for people with disabilities, and to develop projects to place them as full participants in the design of responsible AI.
