Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Shared Research Facility?
A Shared Research Facility houses, maintains, and provides access to specialized research equipment and/or offers research services to the university community.
Are Shared Research Facilities available to groups outside of the University of Washington?
Yes. Many of our Shared Research Facilities are available to non-UW, for-profit and non-profit groups. We value the opportunity to offer our resources to these groups and look forward to helping move their projects forward.
How do I begin working with a Facility?
To begin working with a Facility, please browse our Shared Research Facilities Directory and use the listed contact information provided on the facility page of interest. If further assistance is required, please reach out to Adam Wojno, Assist. Vice Provost for Shared Research Facilities.
What kinds of projects do Shared Research Facilities typically assist with?
We have facilities ready to assist with all activities of research, including but not limited to experiment consultation and design, equipment training and access, custom fabrication, computing resources, and data analysis.
Are all Shared Research Facilities located on the University of Washington’s campus?
No. While many of our facilities and services can be found on the UW’s central campus, we also have locations in the South Lake Union area of Seattle, as well as several throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
