Description
The Molecular Analysis Facility (MAF), which houses characterization instrumentation at UW, is located in the ground-floor instrumentation suite of the Molecular Engineering & Sciences (MolES) – Nano Engineering & Sciences (NanoES) building. The MAF offers microscopy, spectroscopy, and surface science tools for the characterization and development of novel materials, advanced biomedical devices, drug delivery systems, solar cells, photonic sensors, thin films, and more. Tools include SEM, FIB, TEM, XPS, XRD, ToF-SIMS, Raman, FTIR, AFM, and more.
The MAF is available to both academic and industrial users nationwide. Our staff has designed and implemented training programs that allow users from different disciplines to master the operation of our sophisticated tools after a few hour-long training sessions. Our experienced team can perform projects for remote users. In addition to training users and performing experiments, MAF staff scientists are available to consult on experimental design and can help identify the best available technique for a particular scientific inquiry. Existing and prospective users are encouraged to contact staff about their research needs.
